Corona's BPI checking accounts

IN her testimony before the Senate Impeachment court, BPI Ayala branch manager Leonora Dizon said that BPI Express Teller Checking Account 1445-8030-61, opened in 1989, had an ending balance of.:

  • P149,767.36 as of December 31, 2005
  • P153,395.12 as of December 31, 2006
  •   P5,069,711.18 as of December 31, 2007
  • P1,525,872.87 as of December 31, 2008
  • P678,501,83 as of December 31, 2009.
  • P12,024,067.70 as of December 31, 2010

Senator Sergio Osmena III asked the Senate to subpoena other accounts under the name of Corona in BPI, including savings account, certificate deposits, time deposits, unit investment trust funds, and other such deposits.

"These funds tend to come and go, but if the SALN asks the filer to list his assets and liabilities and net worth for the given year and the court sees fit to subpoena the bank accounts in a certain bank, the court limits itself very severely by not looking into other deposits in the bank," he said.

 Enrile granted his request.

The prosecution had also accused Corona of maintaining dollar accounts in PSBank containing at least US$700,000 or roughly P30 million.

Last Wednesday, PSBank President Pascual Garcia III admitted before the impeachment court that Corona had almost P20 million in savings as of 2010.
